Hussien's
Story
The water becomes closer
Hussein Ali, 61years old, lives with his family - as internally displaced persons (IDPs) – in an IDP hosting site in Rub Al-Sham sub-district in Az-Zuhra district of Hodeida governorate. Since their displacement in 2015, they have been suffering from many challenges including the access to clean water due to its scarcity and even obtaining it was another challenge. Hussein said, “The available wells are scarce and we use our hands to get the water from the well … we get 4-5 dabbat ”. He added, “The water causes diseases and diarrhea for children”. Fetching water has become a nightmare day and night for Hussein and his family. Sometimes, he came back with empty hands due to the crowding on the well; as IDPs from surrounding sites comes to fetch water from the well. Other IDPs sometimes take one hour to fetch water from the same well. Life Makers Meeting Place Organization (LMMPO) has identified Al-Hashmyiah well for rehabilitation via construction of a tower tank with a capacity of 32,000 liters and installation of 3 communal water tanks linked directly via supply pipeline from the tower tank to these points which serves 3 IDP sites. Hussein gratefully said, “Thanks to Allah, we are happy, the water became close … the water is available now … it is 25 meters now from my house.” With support from Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF), LMMPO has implemented the Provision of Integrated Food & WASH assistance to IDP households living in IDP sites in Rub Al Sham sub district of Al Zuhra district, Al Hodeida where Hussein was among 3182 individuals who have been served with an access to sustainable water supply via the rehabilitation and installation of two wells (Al-Hashmyiah & Shaglah wells), construction of 32,000 cubic meters tower tank and installation of 4 communal water tanks within 4 IDP hosting sites in Rub Al-Sham, Az-Zuhra district in Hodedia governorate.
