Cholera Response in Amanat Al-Asimah

Project
Cholera is a contagious disease that causes severe diarrhea, can lead to dehydration, and therefore to death if not treated quickly. One of the causes of this disease is eating or drinking contaminatedfood or water.This disease is most common in places of poor sanitation and overcrowding, duringwars and famine. The recent outbreak of cholera in the past few months in Yemen has increased. The situation is getting worst doubled with the collapse of the basic services systems and the great pressures on the remaining health facilities and other sectors such as water and sanitation. The 5th report of the epidemic, 12 June, 2017indicated that cholera outbreak has extended to 20governorates 923 deathsout of the total suspected 124,002 cases.
According to statistics from international health organizations, more than 7.6 million people live in areas affected by cholera / acute watery diarrhea (AWD), and more than 3 million internally displaced people (IDPs) are particularly at risk of AWD. The capital secretariat is one of the governorates with high incidence of suspected AWD with (21,538) cases reported.
Within the trends of Life Makers Meeting Place Organization (LMMPO) trends to respond to such circumstances. Therefore, a cholera response project was implemented with supportcoordination with was made with UNICEF, in addition to coordination and cooperation with the General Authority for Rural Water Projects (GARWSP) and the Health Education Center of Ministry of Public Health and Population (MoPHP). The project has included several activities. A focus was given to awareness raising sessions to reduce AWD outbreak, training 50 community volunteers (50 and volunteers) on how to sterilize, chlorine. Fifteen awareness sessions were carried out in addition to distribution of awareness materials and brochures on the prevention of AWD. The community were informedof the map of AWD service points, which are available within the two districts. The project also has included a distribution of jerry cans to store drinking water for 3000 households (HHs) (2500 HHs in Moean district and 500 HHs in Al-Sabeen district).
B. Implemented Activities:
The activities were implemented in close coordination with UNICEF, GARWSP and Health Education Center in addition to the local councils. The following project activities were implemented successfully as a result effective and constructive cooperation of all stakeholders, especially the local councils, the head of the neighbourhood/community leaders and the beneficiaries:
